Sharpening service

Sharpening service

Anyone can put an edge on a blade. Putting the right edge back on a convex-ground shear takes the wheel, the angle and the feel of someone who grinds them all day. Send them back to us and they come home cutting the way they did in the first week.

What we do

  • Re-profile the convex edge at the original angle, removing as little steel as possible.
  • Re-tension the pivot and check the spring, so the blades meet cleanly along their whole length.
  • Polish and clean the blade faces and handles.
  • Test cut on real hair before it is packed.

What it costs

  • Free for your first sharpening within 12 months of purchase. You pay the shipping to us; we cover the work and the return leg.
  • After that, sharpening is quoted when you book it, based on the model and the state of the edge.
  • Shears we did not make: we will tell you honestly whether it is worth doing before you send them.

Turnaround

Usually 5–10 working days from the day your shear reaches us, plus shipping each way. We will email you when it arrives and when it ships back.

How to send them

  • Contact us first so we know it is coming and can give you the current return address.
  • Wrap the shear in its case or in bubble wrap, and put it in a rigid box. A padded envelope is not enough.
  • Mark the parcel as a repair being returned on the customs form. Sending it as a gift or a sale creates a duty bill at our end and delays the work.
  • Include your name, order number and return address inside the parcel.

Making it last

Wipe the blade after every client, oil the pivot weekly, and store the shear in its case rather than loose in a drawer. Cut hair only. Pairs that get that treatment usually need sharpening once a year rather than twice.
